Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Public Beta First Details
Submitted by badman on Sat, 2007-06-16 19:15.

At long last, we are delighted to confirm the impending Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Public Beta. The ETQW Closed Beta has been going extremely well and yielding excellent results. We want to give more people the opportunity to give us feedback on the game so were going to open a Public Beta with 60,000 slots available. This way well be able to test many more combinations of hardware, RAM, CPU, graphics card, drivers etc. than weve been able to ourselves, and also get a better idea of how the game plays for the general gaming public.

The Public Beta build will consist of a single map named Sewer, which is part of ETQWs Pacific Campaign. Set in Japan, the map revolves around a Strogg base hidden in, well, a sewer. Its an interesting mix of outdoor and indoor, vehicle and infantry combat, deployables and counter-deployables and good old-fashioned FPS combat.

If youd like to help us finish ETQW, wed really appreciate your participation. If you want to just play a game for free you may find it a frustrating experience. This Public Beta is not the Demo - its not the finished game, but an opportunity to get feedback from a large group of people while testing stability and performance on a wider range of hardware combinations. The Public Beta will also collect some information on your hardware configuration, so you shouldnt apply unless youre comfortable with that.

When the Public Beta opens, participants will be sent their unique license code that is required for play. As we dont have the infrastructure necessary to download tens of thousands of clients, weve asked FilePlanet to help us distribute these license codes along with the beta clients.

A fixed number of beta slots are being set aside for Fileplanet subscribers, so if you already have a FilePlanet subscription, youre in the front of the queue. The rest of the slots will then go to those with free FilePlanet accounts. To be clear: You dont have to pay anyone anything to participate in the ETQW Public Beta. Its up to you if you want to pay FilePlanet for use of the improved download services they provide.

We will reveal more details on the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Public Beta, including the official start date, in the near future. Hope to see you all online very soon!

So much new media, screenshots, videos, strat guides about the beta out now. Why non posted here on the site?

The Files Network sites rock, and are my first stop for game info, downloads. I hate to see when some of the sites dont put there all into the game and really help the community blossom. Ball is in the staff's court to get the site kickin. Look at how busy the HL2Files site was kickin a few months b4 release? No reason why this site shouldnt be. Should be the first site ppl turn to for files and media for ETQW.

When you sign up for the beta you electrnically sign an NDA ( non disclosure agreement ) therefore anyone posting information or screenshots from the beta are breaking that agreement. If you are interested in the game then i suggest you get the beta. It is now fully public so you do not even have to be a Fileplanet subscriber. It just means queueing for the file. More info here:

Hurry though, keys are nearly all gone!

Would have been nice if it wasn't when I went to Vancouver for 4 days with my class. Damnit, I wanted to play this game and now I can't see if I am going to like it or not. Why the bloody hell don't they just release a beta that doesn't have any limitations so that everyone can enjoy it until it is released or are they trying to make a point of *****ing people off to the point of just forgetting about the game. I have a feeling that this is going to be another one of those games that gets cancelled at the last minute. I also think that it would be a waste to even bother with a consol release (I do perfer playing games on my 360) because too many awsome games have come out and they are really going to have to pull something out of the bag to not get left in the dust. Even on the PC there are alot of new games coming out that have very high popularity and are very promising and will most likely end up making this a bargain-bin game. Some examples are Grand Theft Auto 4, The Darkness, Halo 3, and many more.
